A tragic incident has left an Ohio family mourning the loss of a 17-year-old girl who died after stepping outside barefoot.
Olivia Bright passed away on August 18, just a few months shy of her 18th birthday.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched to East Toledo, with police reporting that Olivia experienced cardiac arrest.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
First responders indicated that Olivia might have been electrocuted when she stepped outside.
They noted that she had burns on her right hand and was in cardiac arrest, both signs consistent with electrocution.
According to responders, Olivia was heading into a camper in the family’s yard, which had been drenched by rain.
Officials from Toledo Edison clarified that the camper was not energized at the time.
They also observed that the camper was unplugged, and the door showed no signs of charring or burning.
Olivia’s mother, Kimberly, expressed her confusion about the cause of her daughter’s death, telling 13 Action News: “All I know is that Toledo Edison cleared my power. They cleared my electrical.”
Kimberly added: “All I’m saying is treasure your children while they’re here.”
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Kimberly has faced the heartbreak of losing a child.
She previously lost her son Brandon to cancer when he was just 11 years old.
Kimberly shared with the news outlet: “It’s hard. Five and a half years ago, I buried my son Brandon. He was the age of 11, he died from glioblastoma.
“Now I have to go and make arrangements for my daughter Olivia.”
Kimberly remains in search of answers regarding her daughter’s death, stating: “All I want to know is how my daughter passed. That’s the answers I want.”
The family plans to consult with the coroner later this week to determine the official cause of death for the 17-year-old.
During this challenging time, Kimberly is leaning on her children, grandchildren, and the community for support.
She said: “If I don’t have my kids and my grandkids, I wouldn’t know what to do.”
Kimberly urged others: “Be there for your kids, because they could be here today and gone tomorrow, like mine was, and she was only 17.”
The Bright family is organizing a candlelight vigil for Olivia on August 21 at 9:40 pm, the time of her passing.
They have also initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral costs.
