A mother was alarmed when she traced a peculiar odor into her child’s bedroom, only to find a deceased body.
This Los Angeles mother, who remains unnamed, followed her nose to a strange and ‘distinct gas smell’ in her home, leading to the shocking discovery.
Upon reaching the origin of the smell, she uncovered the body of a woman wrapped in plastic.
The discovery was made around 1:15 am on August 13, 2023. She promptly contacted the police, who arrived at her Wall Street residence shortly thereafter.
Local reports indicate that paramedics were also at the scene but, unfortunately, declared the woman dead.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has since identified the woman found in the bedroom as Hannah Rachel Collins.
The duration for which the woman’s body had been in the room remains unknown.
Police have announced that they are treating the case as a homicide.
Details regarding the suspect, including name or photo, have not yet been released, but authorities have indicated that he is in his twenties.
It is unclear if Ms. Collins knew her assailant, and no arrests have been made as of now.
A friend of Collins, Courtney Sanders, spoke to the media, revealing that the victim spent her high school and college years in Mississippi.
Sanders expressed her shock over Collins’ death and the manner in which her body was found.
“When I think of Hannah I think of fun,” Sanders remarked.
“She would come to Mississippi State football games, tailgate with us, spend the night with us. We just had a lot of fun.”
“It’s mind-blowing. I’m still shocked by it, to be honest.”
She continued: “Sometimes you fear that you may get bad news about somebody that you care about, but you never fear that I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning and I’m going to hear that she was found dead wrapped in a plastic bag.
“I never saw her be mean to anybody. Ever. Everybody makes bad choices and goes down bad paths, but there’s always an opportunity and there’s hope to turn around. And that was taken from her.”
