There’s been a bit of a reshuffle in the rankings of Forbes magazine’s annual rich list, with only 1,810 billionaires on the list compared to 1,826 in 2015. But with a combined wealth of $6.48 trillion, those making the list probably aren’t too worried…
#1. Bill Gates has reclaimed his title as the world’s richest person, worth an estimated $75 billion.
Known for revolutionizing the world of computing with Microsoft, Bill took a back seat in 2006 to focus on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Now, hes’s even stepped down from that and devotes his time to battling disease in the developing world.
#2. Amancio Ortega Gaona was worth 78.6 billion last year (and nabbed the number one spot), but now he’s worth just $67 billion.
79-year-old Amancio left school at 14 to start selling clothing before opening fashion retailer Zara (which he wanted to call Zorba but the name was taken) and buying shares in many other stores.
#3. Warren Buffet, the most successful investor in the world, comes in at third place, worth $60.8 billion.
Warren started saving up the money he earned in high school from delivering newspapers and selling stamps and golf balls to buy a 40-acre-farm with a tenant farmer, making him a teeny tiny teenage tycoon.
#4. Carlos Slim Helu is a Mexican business tycoon nabbing fourth place with his net worth of $50 billion.
Amazingly, Carlos’ business empire makes up 40% of the listings on Mexico’s stock exchange, essentially making Carlos just under half of the country’s wealth.
#5. Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos made his fortune with the Internet’s biggest retailer and is today worth $45.2 billion.
Jeff always showed a technical brain, apparently dismantling his crib as a baby and rigging his bedroom with an alarm system to keep his siblings out. He’s currently dabbling in space travel, too.
#6. And just missing out on the top five is Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, worth $44.6 billion.
Finishing the top ten you’ll find entrepreneur Larry Ellison ($43.6 billion) at seven and business magnate and once mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg ($40 billion) at eighth. In ninth and tenth place come the Koch brothers, David and Charles ($39.6 billion).
The first female billionaire pops up at number 11 in the form of French heiress, socialite and businesswoman Lilliane Bettencourt.
