The ‘bizarre’ moment OJ Simpson ‘mimicked killing’ Ruby Wax resurfaces as she speaks out decades later

Ruby Wax has spoken about the unsettling moment when OJ Simpson ‘pretended to kill her’ during their notorious interview from the 1990s.

This shocking footage has resurfaced due to Wax’s participation in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! The interview was conducted shortly after OJ Simpson’s acquittal in the murder case of his wife, Nicole Brown.

The renowned TV host, now 72, managed to secure an interview with Simpson in 1998, which was four years following his trial for the murders of Brown and her friend Ron Goldman at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles.

Simpson’s televised trial captured worldwide attention, as did his subsequent acquittal amid allegations of racial bias and mishandling of evidence.

However, a civil court found him liable for the deaths under a lower standard of proof.

Despite the acquittal, Wax and many others only had one burning question for Simpson, “Did you do it?”

Wax, who gained fame through her 1990s TV show The Full Wax, met Simpson as part of her series Ruby Wax Meets….

During her interview with the former NFL player, Wax asked the question that had shadowed Simpson for years. “No, I didn’t,” he said, glancing directly at the camera.

While the interview itself was gripping, what transpired afterward was even more astonishing.

The footage captures Wax answering a knock on her door, revealing Simpson holding a banana and mimicking a stabbing gesture.

In that bizarre scene, he also made screeching sounds, referencing the iconic shower murder scene from the film Psycho.

“That was insane. He tried to kill me with a banana. He said ‘I did it’ and then said ‘April Fool’s’,” Wax later recounted.

When questioned about why Simpson, who was suspected of being a murderer until his death in 2024, acted so strangely, Wax explained: “Because he wanted to get caught, he couldn’t live with the guilt. He was teasing the whole time.”

“After we finished filming, Simpson said to me that he had a surprise for me – and I genuinely was surprised,” Wax stated. “I think it was his idea of a joke.”

This isn’t the only striking memory Wax has shared from her time with Simpson, who she dined with before the interview.

Despite his infamous trial, numerous women were still eager to spend time with the former NFL star.

“At the restaurant, there was a whole queue of girls lining up to go home with him. And he had quite the appetite for that,” Wax recounted to The Times.

“His sister told the girls to get lost. I couldn’t imagine why there were so many people who wanted to sleep with a man regarded as a murderer.”
