The Boys writer shares a major concern as they approach the fifth season

The creator of the Amazon Prime Video series, The Boys, has shared the primary concern he had regarding the show’s direction.

The adults-only superhero series is set to return for its fifth and concluding season, following a dramatic and intense fourth season.

Fans were disappointed when it was announced that The Boys would be wrapping up, though some appreciated that it would conclude on a strong note.

At that point, creator Eric Kripke posted on X (formerly Twitter): “#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!

“Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought.

“Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

Many fans supported the decision, with one commenting: “Perfect amount, glad they’re not overdoing it. 5 seems like the best for every plot line.”

Another fan remarked: “I feel like 5 seasons is the perfect amount for any great show.”

In a conversation with Collider, creator Eric Kripke discussed his concerns about the show and how the team ensures they are ‘careful’ with the ‘choices [they’re] making’. This is to prevent the series from turning into the type of show ‘[they’ve] been satirizing for years’.

Reflecting on The Boys universe and its future, he shared: “We’re gonna look at the chips we have on the table right now.

“I live in absolute terror of becoming the thing we’ve been satirizing for five years.

“The thing about The Boys is that it’s punk rock, and it hurts extra hard when punk rockers sell out.

“I’m really working hard to not sell out. We do these shows because we really care about them and we’re passionate about them, and they can tell fresh stories that we can’t tell in The Boys and not just be about rapid expansion but be very careful and mindful about the choices we’re making and being able to defend why we’re making them.

“I worry about that every single day. I just want people to say, maybe it’s for them and maybe it isn’t for them, but gotta hand it to them, they maintain a consistent level of quality.”

Currently, The Boys has a prequel series titled Vought Rising in development, alongside the upcoming second season of its spin-off, Gen V.

The anticipated fifth season of The Boys is scheduled to release on Amazon Prime Video in 2026.
