The Deb Producers Claim Rebel Wilson Lied in Bitter Defamation Lawsuit

Rebel Wilson’s legal team is pushing back after producers of her film “The Deb” accused her of lying under oath and manipulating evidence in their ongoing defamation battle.

The producers’ attorney leveled the explosive claims in court papers filed Tuesday, alleging the “Pitch Perfect” star, 45, repeatedly gave “false testimony under oath with respect to multiple material matters” and has “thereby repeatedly [committed] a fraud on the Court so as to gain an unfair advantage in the litigation.” The filing also accuses Wilson of deliberately destroying “critically relevant evidence” and manipulating or manufacturing evidence in the case.

“Wilson’s misconduct is so pervasive, and so indisputably deliberate, as to infect the entirety of these proceedings, and materially impair [Ghost’s] ability to… Obtain a fair trial,” the producers’ attorney wrote in the Tuesday filing.

The defamation lawsuit stems from social media posts Wilson made in 2024 targeting producer Amanda Ghost and her partners Vince Holden and Gregor Cameron. Wilson claimed the producers had embezzled money from the film and alleged that Ghost had sexually abused “The Deb” star Charlotte MacInnes, 24, during an incident in 2023.

That incident occurred after Ghost and MacInnes went swimming at Bondi Beach in Sydney and later took a bath together in a Sydney apartment. MacInnes has maintained that she willingly got in the tub while wearing a bathing suit to help Ghost warm up after Ghost had a bad reaction to the cold seawater. Wilson, who directed “The Deb,” later claimed on social media that MacInnes had been uncomfortable during the episode.

The producers’ attorney claims Wilson made two attempts to convince the judge to toss their suit, and each time relied on allegedly false sworn testimony. The Tuesday filing marks the most aggressive attack yet on Wilson’s credibility in the case.

Wilson’s lawyer, Allyson Thompson, fired back on Wednesday, dismissing the allegations as strategic maneuvering. “This is a hotly contested case, and this is yet another example of gamesmanship by the plaintiffs’ attempting to vilify Ms. Wilson,” Thompson said. “A robust response opposing the recent filing is in the works.”

The legal entanglement has spawned multiple lawsuits. MacInnes herself sued Wilson for defamation after Wilson claimed online that MacInnes had downplayed the alleged abuse to get ahead in her career. A judge ruled in Wilson’s favor in that case earlier this year, clearing her of defaming MacInnes.

The broader dispute has devastated the cast and crew of “The Deb,” Wilson’s directorial debut, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024. The musical comedy, set at a debutante ball in rural Australia, became overshadowed by the cascading legal battles among its key players.

The producers’ Tuesday filing represents their latest effort to turn the tables on Wilson, who has positioned herself as a whistleblower exposing misconduct behind the scenes of her own film. Their attorney framed Wilson’s alleged conduct as systematic deception designed to derail their case.

Ghost, Holden and Cameron have denied Wilson’s embezzlement and abuse allegations from the outset, and their defamation suit seeks to hold her accountable for the public claims she spread across social media platforms.

Wilson’s legal troubles extend beyond this single case. The Australian-born star has been embroiled in multiple high-profile disputes in recent years, and the producers’ new allegations of perjury and evidence tampering threaten to compound her exposure if a judge finds merit in the claims.

A trial in the producers’ defamation case against Wilson is scheduled for January 2027 in Los Angeles.
