The top 10 most popular US baby names for 2025 revealed

The top 10 baby names for 2025 are in – and the latest rankings include a mix of fresh entries and long-standing favourites.

In recognition of Mother’s Day in the US, the Social Security Administration has shared the names parents chose most often last year, noting that many choices “remained consistent with years past with minimal shifts in the top 10 rankings”.

That said, a few notable changes made the new list more interesting. Liam and Olivia are back at number one, but Charlotte has climbed to second place among girls’ names. Meanwhile, Ava – a name that’s been a staple near the top for years – has slipped out of the top 10 for the first time in quite a while.

There’s also a new entry among the top girls’ names, while the boys’ list continues to look largely unchanged from year to year.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all the exceptional mothers who inspire us and guide future generations,” Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said.

“As Mother’s Day draws closer, I find myself reflecting on the unwavering care, courage, and commitment my own mother instilled in my siblings and me as the glue that held our family together.”

Here’s what you need to know.

Anyone who’s been through it knows picking a baby name isn’t always straightforward. It’s a highly personal decision, but popularity charts and trend reports can still help narrow things down or spark ideas.

Separately, Babycenter examined which names within the top 1,000 dropped the most from 2024 to 2025 – and the results point to some shifting preferences.

According to their findings, creative spellings are losing momentum, and names based on destinations or locations appear to be fading too.

They also highlighted which names could be on the verge of disappearing altogether over the next year – including a few that might catch people off guard.
