Tiger Woods speaks out after DUI arrest as he reveals future plans to seek treatment

Tiger Woods has addressed his arrest from last week, saying he “understands the seriousness of the situation”.

The incident stems from a crash on Friday (March 27), when Woods’ car reportedly overturned and came to rest on its side.

After attending the scene, police said they believed the athlete was impaired after observing what they described as “signs of impairment”. Authorities also alleged Woods declined to provide a urine sample, and he was subsequently arrested.

This is the second time Woods has faced a DUI arrest. In 2017, he was taken into custody after reportedly being discovered asleep behind the wheel.

That case later resulted in Woods pleading guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving, and he received a year of probation.

Following the latest arrest, Woods had not spoken publicly for several days. He has now issued a statement on social media, saying he intends to seek treatment.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods’ statement began.

“I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

He added that he is “committed” to taking the time required to “return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place”.

“I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time,” Woods concluded his message.

Speaking last week, Sheriff John Budensiek of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies did not believe Woods had been drinking and that he passed a breathalyzer test. However, officers still suspected impairment for other reasons, which led to the arrest.

Woods was charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit a lawful test.
