TikTok has become a place for everything from personal stories to trending dances, and now it is also where shoppers can find a Mountain Dew deal for just 5 cents.
Anyone who regularly scrolls the app knows a cold drink is always welcome during a lengthy TikTok session, and Mountain Dew is leaning into that by offering a special bundle through TikTok Shop at an unusually low price. The promotion is part of the brand’s “American Original – Tasting Great Since ’48” campaign and is designed as a nod to Mountain Dew’s roots in 1948.
The promotion ties in with the brand’s history, as Mountain Dew was first created in Tennessee in 1948, when two brothers with a citrus recipe set out to make something different.
According to the company, the commemorative packaging is “inspired by the brand’s heritage story,” referencing the two brothers behind the citrus recipe, while the 5-cent cost is meant to reflect the era in which the drink first launched.
People hoping to grab one of the ultra-cheap cans will need to move quickly, though. To match the drink’s launch year, only 1,948 bundles are being sold through TikTok Shop over the three-day promotion.
Each commemorative bundle includes a special edition can and a 10-pack of Mountain Dew mini cans, with purchases capped at one bundle per customer.
The promotion starts on June 29 and ends on July 1. Daily quantities are not being revealed in advance, with the number available each day set to be shared on Mountain Dew’s Instagram Story at noon ET.
“Since 1948, Mountain Dew has been defined by bold spirit, unrelentless grit and ambitious energy – qualities that continue to drive the brand forward today. This commemorative can is about bringing that origin story to life, paying homage to our roots as an American Original and giving fans a meaningful way to celebrate Dew history.”
Michael Smith, VP of Marketing for Mountain Dew, PepsiCo Beverages US, shared that statement in a press release about the limited-edition launch.
Of course, fans could always buy standard Mountain Dew at the usual price in stores, but this offer gives them a chance to pick up a collector-style can, score a bargain, and tell everyone it only cost 5 cents.
