Tim Curry, Rocky Horror Icon, Returns to Film After 14-Year Hiatus

Rocky Horror legend Tim Curry is poised to make his cinematic comeback after a 14-year break.

The 78-year-old actor, renowned for his iconic roles in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and It, experienced a significant stroke in 2012 that resulted in him being confined to a wheelchair.

He has undergone numerous sessions of physical and speech therapy, which have gradually aided in his recovery.

This progress enabled Curry to venture into voice acting, participating in various projects for Cartoon Network and taking part in the FOX Television Event, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again.

In recognition of his resilience, Curry was honored with the organization’s lifetime achievement award.

“I’m doing well and I’m looking forward to it,” he shared with Los Angeles magazine prior to the event. “I’ve done a few benefits for the Actors Fund and I think it’s a marvellous organisation. I hope not to have to use it.”

He emphasized that maintaining a sense of humor was ‘absolutely vital’ during his recovery.

“It’s not tough to maintain,” he told the magazine. “It is just part of my DNA.”

Reflecting on his award, Curry expressed: “It means that it just sort of solidifies the kind of work the American acting community has given me for years now.

“I was thrilled when they told me and I am thrilled now.”

Now, the seasoned actor is making his return to cinemas with Stream, which debuted in select theaters on Wednesday.

The film, which revolves around a family whose weekend getaway turns deadly due to four psychopathic killers who lock down their hotel and hunt them, is Curry’s first major movie role since the 2010 comedy Burke and Hare.

Michael Leavy, the director of Stream, has been vocal about Curry’s involvement and is clearly elated.

“This has been a really hard secret to keep and contain our excitement, especially for this long,” the director said in a statement.

“We are so happy and thrilled to bring Tim back to the movies and back to the big screen!

“His charm always radiates and shines through everything he does and we are so honored to have him a part of Stream!

“He is someone I have idolized personally growing up and it is one of the major highlights of my life getting to work with him, especially on a project that means so much to me.”

Leavy continued: “We can’t wait for fans to sit back and enjoy our movie in theaters and hopefully with a huge crowd having a blast together!

“This is the way horror films are meant to be seen and enjoyed. Stream is here to entertain.”
