Tina Fey hints at subtle clue in first episode of acclaimed Netflix series foreshadowing later tragic twist

A Netflix series featuring Tina Fey and Steve Carell has captivated audiences with a surprising twist that viewers believe was hinted at earlier in the series.

As we find ourselves nearly halfway through 2025, a Netflix series has emerged as a standout, with viewers calling it the “best thing [they’ve] seen all year.” This is quite an assertion given the plethora of notable releases so far.

The series stars Steve Carell from The Office and Tina Fey from Baby Mama, who last appeared together in 2010’s Date Night. Each episode is lauded as a “warm hug,” yet also described as having “a punch to the gut – in the best way.”

Regarding the “punch to the gut,” Fey noted that there’s a specific moment in the first episode that serves as the closest thing the series has to an Easter egg.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The comedy revolves around the lives of three couples—one unhappy, one extravagant, and one deeply in love.

These couples embark on four vacations throughout the seasons, navigating their relationships both with each other and their partners.

In the second-to-last episode, viewers are hit with the major “gut punch” when Carell’s character meets his end.

Was there any way to predict this outcome?

According to a Netflix video, none of the cast, except for Carell, was aware of his character’s fate until the script reading for that episode.

Fey humorously pointed out a moment in the first episode as the closest thing to an Easter egg: when the couples reach the lake house and Carell’s Nick, along with Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), pretend to be zombies.

In that scene, Fey’s character, Kate, exclaims, “One of you is going to die.”

Kenney-Silver humorously remarked, “See if we had listened, maybe we would have been more careful.”

You might recognize Kenney-Silver from Reno 911, and other cast members might also seem familiar.

Carell and Fey are joined by Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen.

Domingo is known for his role in HBO’s Euphoria, where he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2022.

Calvani was behind the 2024 romantic drama High Tide as both writer and director, while Henningsen has credits on Broadway and the sitcom Girls5eva.

The series is based on the 1981 film of the same name by Alan Alda, who also makes a guest appearance in the series.

Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield are credited with creating The Four Seasons.

The series has been a hit among Netflix viewers.

A Twitter user exclaimed: “#TheFourSeasons was incredible! Great cast, great script, great acting, unexpected plot twists, 10/10 – zero notes.”

Another commented, “#TheFourSeasons has no business being this funny, reminds of old school sitcoms. great cast, dynamic twists and a lot more heart than initially anticipated.”

A third person stated: “I think more people need to be talking about the four seasons because this show is a masterpiece #TheFourSeasons.”

“The best series I’ve seen all year. Every episode is like a warm hug and a punch to the gut – in the best way,” added another viewer.
