Minnesota-based Dan Pauly’s tiny wood cabins look like they belong in the pages of a fairy tale, not in your backyard.
The tiny, asymmetrical buildings with their long slanted roofs, crooked chimneys, and whimsical appearance are reminiscent of something from a Dr. Seuss book.
Pauly’s company The Rustic Way builds these cabins with reclaimed wood. His family’s woodworking history goes back four generations, to the 1800s when his family emigrated to the US and built barns in Minnesota.
This history underlies Pauly’s love of reclaimed wood. “As I uncover an old barn or shed,” Pauly says, “I realize that it could be the same lumber that my great-grandfather used more than 100 years ago.
“I think that respect for the craftsmen and craftswomen of the past, and for the wood they used, make a difference in each new piece I create.”
