As one of the most renowned actors globally, one might assume Tom Cruise could acquire any car he desires. However, he’s reportedly not allowed to purchase a Bugatti.
It’s not due to financial constraints that Cruise can’t buy one, so rest assured he’s not facing monetary issues.
For those not familiar, Bugatti cars are rare luxury vehicles that aren’t just available to anyone, regardless of their ability to afford them.
The issue lies in the company’s decision to ban Cruise from purchasing one after a public mishap. It takes a bold company to deny one of the world’s biggest celebrities, yet that’s exactly what’s happened here.
Renowned for having some of the fastest cars globally, the French company also imposes stringent requirements on its customers.
Owners are expected to spend roughly $21,000 annually on maintenance, a sum that exceeds the price of many cars available today, and they are advised to replace their tires every 10,000 miles.
With vehicle prices ranging from $3 million to $12.5 million (according to MotorTrend), it isn’t the cost that’s barring Cruise from purchasing a Bugatti.
The prohibition stems from a 2006 incident, which likely still lingers in Cruise’s memory.
The event occurred at the Mission Impossible 3 premiere, where Cruise was observed having difficulty opening the passenger door of his Bugatti Veyron, with his then-wife, Katie Holmes, waiting inside to be released.
Holmes eventually exited the car and joined the red carpet, but this high-profile blunder was enough to catch Bugatti’s attention.
The awkward scene was perceived as too mortifying for the luxury car brand, prompting a lifetime ban for Cruise to prevent a recurrence.
However, Cruise isn’t the only one facing such a restriction from Bugatti.
Due to various reasons, celebrities like Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, Flo Rida, Simon Cowell, and 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button have also been banned indefinitely from purchasing a Bugatti.
Fortunately, Cruise has turned to other luxury car brands for comfort, such as BMWs, Chevrolets, and Mustangs, which have all graced his garage at different times.
