Tragic last text message tourist sent to mom before perishing in active volcano

The tragic incident involving a 26-year-old Brazilian woman, Juliana Marins, who died after falling into a volcano crater during a hike, has brought to light her final text message to her mother.

Juliana Marins, a passionate traveler, was in contact with her mother throughout her trip, sharing her excitement. However, this communication ended tragically when she fell from a cliff on the Indonesian island of Lombok’s volcano on June 21, sparking a search operation.

On June 23, Gunung Rinjani National Park announced on Facebook that her location had been pinpointed using a drone. She was stuck on a rock cliff at a depth of 500 meters, appearing motionless.

The search ended in tragedy on June 24, when it was confirmed that Marins had died from the fall.

Brazilian news program Fantástico released her messages, which conveyed her love for travel and deep affection for her family.

The English translation by The Sun of her text read: “Mami, I love you so much. I was heartbroken when we said goodbye.”

Marins expressed that she was not fearful and continued in her texts: “In fact, that’s the only thing that worries me: letting you, papi or my sister be disappointed. Other than that, I’m not afraid of much, much less trouble,” she wrote.

“I was raised by a woman who can solve any problem and who is not afraid to take the plunge and go after her dreams. I am like that too. I have different desires and dreams,” Marins added. “I love you all very much! And I will always be grateful for all the support, care and affection. That is what makes me not afraid.”

Her family has voiced their anger on social media, accusing the rescue team of negligence, suggesting that she could have been saved with a quicker response.

On June 25, they posted: “If the team had reached her within the estimated time of 7 hours, Juliana would still be alive.

“Juliana deserved much more! Now we are going to seek justice for her, because that is what she deserves! Don’t give up on Juliana!”

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported: “After four days of work, made difficult by adverse weather, ground and visibility conditions in the region, teams from the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency found the body of the Brazilian tourist.”

It is reported that Marins was with a guide during the hike, and when she requested a rest, the group continued without her. Upon returning, the guide discovered she had fallen.

Tereza Cristina of the Brazilian Federal Senate stated: “The entire Brazil cheered and prayed that the rescue would arrive in time to save the young woman from Niterói, Juliana Marins, alive. Unfortunately, they could not save her. Very sad.

“Our condolences to her family and friends. And may the Brazilian government, through Itamaraty, demand an investigation of the facts and the punishment of those responsible in Indonesia.

“In practice, Juliana was left behind twice: on the dangerous trail and after she fell off the cliff.”

Those who have hiked the path before have described it as extremely challenging.
