Travis Scott has shared details of an unforgettable present he received from Norway footballer Erling Haaland during the FIFA World Cup, admitting the moment left him genuinely star struck.
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Scott spoke about taking in multiple World Cup fixtures around the US and meeting some of the sport’s biggest figures, among them Haaland and Lionel Messi.
He told Fallon that he attended roughly six matches in cities including Houston and New York, with the tournament drawing some of the biggest global stars to stadiums across the country. During that time, he also linked up with Haaland, having previously worked on a Nike boot design that the striker wore during the tournament.
Scott said Haaland gave him a signed Norway shirt, complete with the forward’s name and his trademark number nine on the back.
“‘t’s crazy, man,’ Scott said, explaining that the pair had already built a connection through the custom Nike boot he helped create for the tournament, which Haaland ended up wearing on the pitch.
He also reflected on meeting Messi at Fanatics Fest in New York, where he posed for pictures with major names from the sports world, including Tom Brady and Kevin Hart.
According to Scott, he found out before a press conference that Messi would be attending and immediately wanted to meet him. He described the Argentine icon as ‘cool’, while also saying Messi seemed fully focused on the sport itself.
Scott’s comments add to a growing crossover between football and hip-hop culture, with elite players increasingly collaborating with brands and artists on limited-edition boots, kits and other gear.
Away from football, Scott used the interview to talk about his involvement in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which had climbed to the top of the worldwide box office.
He also contributed the film’s closing track, When I’m Home.
Scott said the acting role came as a complete surprise, explaining that Nolan personally called to ask whether he wanted to be part of the movie.
At first, he believed the filmmaker was reaching out about music rather than a screen role, especially because they had previously teamed up on the end credits song for Tenet.
He added that Nolan kept most of the project secret at first, only sharing more once the conversation progressed.
Scott said he accepted immediately, though he later acknowledged feeling nervous while filming with a cast featuring Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson.
He also spoke about his wider relationship with Nolan, saying the director has become a mentor-like presence in his life. Scott added that music for the film was only discussed after Nolan had already let him see early versions of the movie.
Elsewhere in the interview, he mentioned working with Nike on custom footwear for members of the cast and said he had personally directed the music video for When I’m Home, which was due to arrive the following week.
