President Donald Trump said he is “ashamed” of some Supreme Court justices after the court struck down his tariff approach by a 6-3 margin.
The Supreme Court’s decision found that Trump overstepped his powers in imposing the tariffs, determining that the authority he relied on is tied to situations involving a national emergency.
Since beginning his second term back in the White House, Trump had rolled out sweeping tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The 1977 statute gives presidents tools to take economic action when a national emergency has been declared.
Reacting to the ruling, Trump said: “I’m ashamed of certain members of the court, absolutely ashamed for not having the courage to do what’s right for our country.”

He also singled out Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito for praise after they dissented, saying: “When you read the dissenting opinions, there’s no way that anyone can argue against them, there’s no way.
“Foreign countries that have been ripping us off for years are ecstatic. They’re so happy. And they’re dancing in the streets, but they won’t be dancing for long, that I can assure you.”
Trump went on to say he would sign an executive order to introduce a 10 percent global tariff, and that he would also use Section 301 to ‘protect our country from unfair trading practices of other countries and companies’.

Before the ruling came down, Trump had warned that the US would be ‘screwed’ if the Supreme Court didn’t side with him on tariffs.
“The actual numbers that we would have to pay back if, for any reason, the Supreme Court were to rule against the United States of America on Tariffs, would be many Hundreds of Billions of Dollars, and that doesn’t include the amount of ‘payback’ that Countries and Companies would require for the Investments they are making on building Plants, Factories, and Equipment, for the purpose of being able to avoid the payment of Tariffs,” Trump explained in a lengthy Truth Social post.
“When these Investments are added we are talking about trillions of dollars! It would be a complete mess, and almost impossible for our Country to pay.”

Trump continued: “Anybody who says that it can be quickly and easily done would be making a false, inaccurate, or totally misunderstood answer to this very large and complex question.
“It may not be possible but, if it were, it would be Dollars that would be so large that it would take many years to figure out what number we are talking about and even, who, when, and where, to pay.
“Remember, when America shines brightly, the World shines brightly. In other words, if the Supreme Court rules against the United States of America on this National Security bonanza, WE’RE SCREWED!”
