Elon Musk and Donald Trump are reportedly on the verge of a meeting following their recent disagreements.
Known to have been allies for quite some time, Musk even participated in Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and was a speaker at various rallies.
Upon Trump’s return to office, he quickly appointed Musk as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in his administration.
Musk held the position until recently, after which tensions began to escalate between him and the president.
The discord is largely due to Musk’s disapproval of Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’. This contested legislation includes provisions such as no tax on Social Security and no tax on overtime and tips.
Passed by the House of Republicans at the end of May, the bill is now on its way to the Senate.
Musk has been vocal about his opposition, labeling the bill an ‘abomination’.
In response, Trump expressed his ‘disappointment’ with Musk, asserting that the tech entrepreneur was aware of the bill’s details prior to leaving the administration.
Their public dispute has only intensified. Musk took to Twitter to make a serious allegation, suggesting that the president is mentioned in the Jeffrey Epstein files, which is why the documents remain undisclosed. However, he provided no evidence to support these claims.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed Musk’s accusation, calling it an ‘unfortunate episode’, and stated (via Sky News): “This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill [a Republican tax and spending bill] because it does not include the policies he wanted.”
“The president is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.”
Amid the increasing tension, Musk and Trump are expected to meet today (June 6).
According to The Independent, Politico’s White House Bureau Chief Dasha Burns reportedly spoke with the president last night, confirming the planned meeting.
Despite his critical remarks about Trump, Musk might be inclined to reconcile for the nation’s sake.
Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman tweeted: “I support @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk and they should make peace for the benefit of our great country.”
“We are much stronger together than apart,” he added.
In response to the post, Musk commented: “You’re not wrong.”
Meanwhile, the Tesla CEO continues to critique Trump. In one tweet, he warned: “The Trump tariffs will cause a recession in the second half of this year.”
In another instance, when someone suggested impeaching Trump and replacing him with JD Vance, Musk retweeted with a simple ‘yes’.
