President Donald Trump of the United States has officially announced that Mike Waltz will no longer serve as his national security adviser.
Waltz, who was previously a congressman representing Florida’s sixth congressional district, was among Trump’s initial appointees following his victory in the 2024 election.
However, shortly after President Trump celebrated his 100th day in office, he disclosed Waltz’s upcoming departure.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated: “I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations.
“From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role.
The President also named the individual who will temporarily assume the role of National Security Advisor.
The post further explained: “In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department.
“Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN.
“Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
This announcement follows reports linking Waltz to a significant security breach, in which a journalist from The Atlantic was inadvertently added to a Signal group chat where officials discussed classified military strategies for US operations in Yemen.
Following the breach, Waltz addressed the incident on Fox News, stating: “I take full responsibility. I built the group. It’s embarrassing. We’re going to get to the bottom of it.”
Despite this incident, Waltz remained in his position immediately afterward. As Trump celebrated his 100th day in office, Waltz joined other administration members in commending the president for his achievements.
During a White House event, Waltz expressed to Trump: “It’s an honor to serve you in this administration.”
Trump replied: “Thank you very much Michael.”
In an appearance on Fox & Friends, Waltz also praised Trump’s initiatives to modernize the military and equip US troops properly.
He remarked: “This is exactly what our modern force needs as it moves out of those protracted Middle East wars to deal with the modern warfare that we’re seeing, from space to cyberspace to drones to missiles. All of those in the hands of our war-fighters now.”
On the morning of May 1st, Waltz was spotted entering the White House amidst speculation about whether he would retain his current position.
With the position of national security adviser now vacant, a source informed CNN that special envoy Steve Witkoff, a real estate developer and Trump confidant, is being considered for the role.
