Trump clarifies cause of hand bruise after recent photos raise alarm

The president has offered a forthright explanation for the noticeable bruise on his hand, which was observed during his recent appearance at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

This week, Trump joined a number of prominent political figures in Davos for the WEF. However, it wasn’t solely his discussions about Greenland that attracted attention, but also the sizable bruise on his hand.

The bruise was visible on the back of Trump’s left hand during a signing ceremony for the ‘Board of Peace’ on January 22.

This mark bore a resemblance to one the president had in March of the previous year, which had previously raised concerns about his health.

While aboard Air Force One on his return to the States, the president addressed the latest bruising on his hand.

He attributed the bruising to the daily aspirin he takes, which can make him more prone to such marks. He explained, “They say take aspirin if you like your heart, but don’t take aspirin if you don’t want to have a little bruising. I take the big aspirin.”

According to Reuters, Trump further noted, “The doctor said, ‘You don’t have to take that, sir. You’re very healthy.’ I said, ‘I’m not taking any chances.'”

The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, who is pregnant with her second child, mentioned that the president knocked his hand on the corner of a table during the signing ceremony.

Information from Harvard Health supports that low-dosage aspirin increases the likelihood of bruising.

Dr. Deepak Bhatt elaborated on the website, “Aspirin decreases the ability of tiny cell fragments in the blood, called platelets, from clumping together and forming clots. Preventing these clots will help you avoid a repeat heart attack. But it can make you bleed a little more easily, including the below-the-skin bleeding seen in bruises.

“Small cuts may take a bit longer than usual to stop bleeding. People sometimes also say their gums bleed more easily when they floss or brush their teeth after starting low-dose aspirin. An electric toothbrush can help in that regard. Likewise, an electric shaver may help you avoid bleeding from razor cuts.”

Trump’s clarification follows last year’s comments from Leavitt, who mentioned that the bruising was due to “constantly working and shaking hands all day every day.”

After the bruise was noted, the president was later seen with a significant amount of makeup on one of his hands, seemingly to cover another bruise he had developed.
