Trump issues foreboding three-word statement on Greenland prior to key discussions with European leaders

Donald Trump provided a worrisome three-word response when questioned about the extent of his commitment to acquiring Greenland, as NATO allies express their concerns over his ambitions.

Today, January 21, Trump is expected to present his arguments at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. This event is also attended by other political figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Al Jazeera, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will be absent. His invitation was withdrawn following the deaths of many protesters in Iran.

The WEF announced on Twitter regarding Araghchi: “Although he was invited last fall, the tragic loss of lives of civilians in Iran over the past few weeks means that it is not right for the Iranian government to be represented at Davos this year.”

Aside from the situation in Iran, another major topic anticipated to dominate discussions in Davos is Trump’s intentions for Greenland. The President of the United States has expressed his desire to secure the world’s largest island for ‘security’ reasons, though many view it as a potential U.S. land acquisition.

Prior to his discussions today, Trump was questioned about the lengths he is willing to go to acquire the island, which is an autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark.

“You’ll find out,” Trump stated to reporters during an unexpected press conference marking the end of his first year in his second term as president.

Questions also arose regarding Trump’s willingness to risk NATO’s dissolution due to his determination concerning Greenland.

“I think something’s going to happen that’s going to be very good for everybody,” he remarked.

“I think that we will work something out… NATO is going to be very happy and where we’re going to be very happy. But we need it for security purposes, we need it for national security and even world security. It is very important.”

Trump also voiced his doubts about NATO’s commitment to the United States’ defense.

“The big fear I have with NATO is we spend tremendous amounts of money with NATO and I know we’ll come to their rescue but I just really do question whether or not they’ll come to ours,” the US president stated.

If the United States were to attempt a military takeover of Greenland, it would be NATO allies that come to the territory’s defense, as Greenland and Denmark lack the resources to oppose the US.

The island is located within the jurisdiction covered by the NATO military alliance.
