Donald Trump has commented on the controversial acquisition of Warner Bros. by Netflix amid growing concerns.
Netflix, which holds the largest market share among streaming services worldwide, has revealed its intent to purchase Warner Bros. in a transaction valued at approximately $72 billion.
This acquisition has already sparked considerable backlash within Hollywood, with apprehensions regarding its potentially adverse effects on the film and television industry. Criticism has emerged from both Republicans and Democrats, who fear it might grant Netflix excessive market power.
As part of the deal, Netflix will obtain Warner Bros. Discovery’s film and television production facilities, along with the HBO Max streaming service.
Donald Trump has now entered the conversation, though his exact stance remains ambiguous.

The president expressed concerns over the possibility of Netflix gaining significant market dominance, stating, “That’s going to be for some economists to tell. But it is a big market share. There’s no question it could be a problem.”
Regarding the regulatory process for the deal in the United States, he mentioned, “I’ll be involved in that decision.”
Nevertheless, despite his remarks, Trump’s exact position on the agreement remains unclear. While he hinted at potential regulatory hurdles, he has not definitively stated his perspective on the merger.
The contract, which parties involved aim to finalize next year, has received widespread criticism and complaints from various individuals and organizations worried about its consequences.
In a statement, the Writers Guild of America commented: “The world’s largest streaming company swallowing one of its biggest competitors is what antitrust laws were designed to prevent.”

“The outcome would eliminate jobs, push down wages, worsen conditions for all entertainment workers, raise prices for consumers, and reduce the volume and diversity of content for all viewers.”
Republican Senator Roger Marshall also expressed disapproval of the deal, stating: “Netflix’s attempt to buy Warner Bros would be the largest media takeover in history – and it raises serious red flags for consumers, creators, movie theaters, and local businesses alike.”
“One company should not have full vertical control of the content and the distribution pipeline that delivers it. And combining two of the largest streaming platforms is a textbook horizontal Antitrust problem.”
“Prices, choice, and creative freedom are at stake. Regulators need to take a hard look at this deal, and realize how harmful it would be for consumers and Western society.”
