Donald Trump has shared a screenshot of a private message from Emmanuel Macron where the French president appears to be advocating for peace.
Trump is known for publicizing private communications; in June, he shared details of a conversation with NATO’s secretary general, Mark Rutte.
Recently, Trump has done something similar with Macron amidst global tensions surrounding Trump’s interest in purchasing Greenland.
There is concern that if Trump cannot buy the world’s largest island, he might consider military action instead, though Congress has mechanisms to prevent this.
World leaders, particularly those in NATO countries, have expressed significant opposition to Trump’s intentions regarding Greenland.

In response to the backlash, Trump has threatened new tariffs on nations opposing his plans.
Last week, he stated: “I may put a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security. So I may do that.”
Subsequently, Trump has suggested imposing 200 percent tariffs on French wine and champagne, possibly to persuade Macron to join his Board of Peace initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts, as reported by Reuters.
Macron has reportedly indicated he does not intend to join the board.
When informed of Macron’s position, Trump responded: “Did he say that? Well, nobody wants him because he will be out of office very soon.”
“I’ll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he’ll join, but he doesn’t have to join,” Trump added.
Now, Trump has posted a private message from Macron on Truth Social in which the French president seems to be seeking a peaceful approach.
According to the screenshot, Macron wrote: “My friend, We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland.
“Let us try to build great things: 1) I can set up a G7 meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon. I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danish, the Syrians and the Russians in the margins 2) Let us have a dinner together in Paris together on Thursday before you go back to the us. Emmanuel.”
By Thursday, the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, will be underway. Starting on January 19, the event gathers global leaders to address international issues.
Trump will attend the summit alongside figures like Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
