Speaking at a White House event, Donald Trump applauded his own record and claimed there’s a single word that can derail political careers.
On March 12, the White House hosted an event marking Women’s History Month, where Donald Trump repeatedly veered into side remarks during his speech.
He used the appearance to highlight what he described as achievements from his second term as president.
Among the points he referenced were claims about major drops in prescription drug prices, a strengthened US military, and tariff moves he said had produced wins in dealings with other countries.
He also suggested that, when speaking about women, there’s a particular compliment that public figures are effectively discouraged from saying—arguing that it can ruin a career, even though he insisted he would say it regardless.
After describing women as ‘the whole deal’ and referencing Melania Trump as well as women in his administration, he broadened his remarks to praise women more generally.

He said: “They are so powerful and so important and so beautiful.
“I’m not allowed to use the word beautiful, but I’m using it anyway. Usually, it’s the end of your political career. If you say a woman’s a beautiful woman, they say that’s the termination of his career.
“But somehow, it hasn’t hurt too much. You are incredible women, and you’re beautiful women.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Trump argued that he hasn’t received enough recognition for securing several major events that are set to take place in the US.
Just before introducing his final guest speaker, six-time Olympic medalist Kaillie Humphries, he said: “We have the Olympics and we have the World Cup coming up… I did the Olympics, I got the Olympics, then I got the World Cup, then I got 250 [year celebration], but I’ve never been given credit for that.”
The comments prompted reactions online, with some social media users questioning why he believed he deserved more praise.
One user wrote: “He’s trying to take credit for our country’s birthday?”

Another joked: “You guys don’t remember when in 1776 Donald Trump came over on the Mayflower and delivered the Statue of Liberty to the Russians?”
A third wrote: “Why would he be getting credit for any of those?”
While another user joked: “’But enough about me, we’re here to honor women….
“Women love me. No one has done more for women than me. Everyone says so. Big tough men come up to me with tears in their eyes and say, “Sir, my wife has never been happier than she is since you…..’”
