Donald Trump has withdrawn Secret Service protection for Kamala Harris as she gets ready for her upcoming book tour in the United States.
An official letter detailing the termination of Harris’ protection states: “You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”
A senior advisor for Harris verified the development to NBC News, noting: “The vice president is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”
Typically, former vice presidents are afforded a six-month security detail from the Secret Service after their term ends, although Joe Biden had extended this to one year as per reports.
