Trump slams Obama in Truth Social rant as he details ‘pallets of cash’ deal with Iran

Donald Trump has returned to Truth Social with another rapid-fire run of posts, this time directing his criticism at former President Barack Obama.

So far in 2026, Trump has published roughly 2,700 posts on the platform — working out at about 19 a day — and his late-night bursts have targeted a wide range of figures.

Now, he’s focusing on Obama’s Iran nuclear agreement, which Trump has previously dismissed as ‘decaying and rotten’.

During his first term in office, Trump moved to undo the deal, effectively tearing it up.

In his latest string of posts, Trump contrasted the Obama-era agreement with his own approach — portraying Obama’s deal as a huge stack of money, while presenting his policy as a war-ready battleship striking Iranian vessels from the sky.

The cash imagery appears to reference funds and assets returned to Iran under the terms of the agreement in exchange for limits on its nuclear programme.

By contrast, Trump’s messaging highlighted a more aggressive posture, including the use of regular airstrikes.

The posts arrive at a sensitive moment, as US diplomats push for an agreement with Iranian officials that could lead to the Strait of Hormuz reopening.

Over the weekend, senior negotiators from Tehran traveled to Qatar for talks aimed at a possible arrangement to end the US-Israel war on Iran.

Even so, the US carried out a fresh round of airstrikes on Monday, described as being done “to protect US forces” in southern Iran.

CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins told Fox News that US forces were striking ‘missile sites’ in southern Iran, and also targeting Iranian ships that were “attempting to lay naval mines in strategic waterways used by military and commercial ships.

He said: “US forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces,’

“Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines. U.S. Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.”

Diplomatic messaging over the weekend appeared to swing back and forth, with US officials suggesting progress had been made while Iran rejected claims that any agreement was in place.

In a separate post to Truth Social, Trump said: “The Enriched Uranium (Nuclear Dust!) will either be immediately turned over to the United States to be brought home and destroyed or, preferably, in conjunction and coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran, destroyed in place or, at another acceptable location, with the Atomic Energy Commission, or its equivalent, being witness to this process and event.”

It wasn’t immediately apparent whether his remarks reflected any formal element of the current talks with Tehran.

A ceasefire has been in place between Iran and the US since April 8, while senior diplomats continue negotiations in an effort to reach a broader deal.
