Donald Trump has sharply criticized the FBI’s director for expressing doubts about whether a bullet actually struck his ear during a rally in Pennsylvania.
On July 13, gunshots were fired at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Video footage from the event shows the former president reacting by touching the side of his face, and a subsequent social media post revealed his ear was bloodied, confirming his injuries.
However, FBI director Christopher Wray questioned if it was indeed a bullet that hit Trump’s ear, prompting a strong reaction from Trump.
On Wednesday (July 24), Wray testified before the House Judiciary Committee regarding the ongoing investigation into the July 13 events, which have been characterized as an assassination attempt on Trump’s life.
The FBI stated that officials thoroughly examined the scene, recovering evidence including bullets. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, had fired eight rounds.
Wray remarked: “With respect to former president Trump, there’s some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear.”
“As I sit here right now, I don’t know whether that bullet… in addition to causing the grazing, could have landed somewhere else. But I believe we’ve accounted for all the shots in the cartridges.”
Trump quickly responded to Wray’s comments on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump stated: “FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively ‘uneventful’ – Wrong!
“That’s why he knows nothing about the terrorists and other criminals pouring into our Country at record levels. His only focus is destroying J6 Patriots, Raiding Mar-a-Lago, and saving Radical Left Lunatics, like the ones now in D.C. burning American flags and spray painting over our great National Monuments – with zero retribution.”
“No, it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a ‘bullet wound to the ear’. No wonder the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!”
