Unusual way Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest first met as they make rare joint red carpet appearance

Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest looked as in love as ever during a rare red carpet appearance.

The Halloween actress, 67, and the actor-comedian, 77, have shared their lives for 41 years, having first met in 1984.

Earlier this week, Guest stood by his wife’s side during the red carpet event for her latest film, Ella McCay.

This political drama features Barbie’s Emma Mackey in the lead role as Ella McCay, who has just become the governor of her home state.

Curtis takes on the role of McCay’s fiercely supportive aunt, Helen.

Walking hand-in-hand, Curtis donned a black leather dress while Guest looked dapper in a navy blue suit as they attended the event in Los Angeles, California.

The Spinal Tap star playfully directed attention towards Curtis, ensuring she was the center of focus.

Their love story began in an unusual manner, making their long-lasting romance even more remarkable.

Interestingly, Curtis and Guest’s journey began before they had even met in person.

Curtis first noticed the Princess Bride actor in a Rolling Stone magazine feature and mentioned to a friend her intention to marry him.

She even left her number with his agent, but Guest did not call her.

Fate intervened a few weeks later when they saw each other across a West Hollywood restaurant.

With a simple wave, Guest reached out to her the very next day.

Their first date took place on July 2, 1984, and by the time Guest departed for a year of Saturday Night Live filming in New York that August, they were in love.

Just six months later, they were married.

It seems the saying “when you know, you know” holds true!

As they approached their 40th wedding anniversary, Curtis shared that the secret to their lasting marriage is perseverance.

“You don’t leave,” she told Entertainment Tonight in December 2024, explaining that marriage, much like recovery, involves staying committed and allowing the scenery to change.

Guest, whose full name is Christopher Haden-Guest, holds the title of Baron, which he inherited after his father’s passing in 1996.

This technically makes Curtis a Baroness, allowing her to use the title Lady Haden-Guest.

However, she chose not to, stating in Architectural Digest that “it has nothing to do with me.”

Such humility!
