Recently, President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform to repost a message concerning former President Barack Obama.
This message repeated an earlier assertion that Obama had received ‘royalties totaling $40 million’ following the establishment of Obamacare in 2010.
The post, which Trump shared, stated: “#BREAKING: DOGE halts yearly payment of $2.5 million to Barack Obama for ‘royalties linked to Obamacare’.”
Trump added the comment: “WOW!”
Obamacare, officially known as the Affordable Care Act, was enacted in 2010 with the objective of reforming the U.S. healthcare system to enhance insurance accessibility for American citizens.
Although the post Trump shared did not provide a link or source, it is believed to have stemmed from satirical content published on a website called the Dunning-Kruger Times, a part of America’s Last Line of Defense network.
The site is recognized for its ‘parody, satire and tomfoolery’ and labels all its content as ‘fiction’.
“If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined,” it advises.
The narrative suggesting Obama had been receiving royalties started earlier this year but has been refuted.
Christopher Blair, owner of America’s Last Line of Defense, previously mentioned to Reuters: “The ‘Obamacare Royalties’ storyline is one ALLOD has used successfully for years.
“The operation thrives on confirmation bias.”
Furthermore, CNN anchor Jake Tapper debunked the story, releasing a video clarifying: “No, President Obama is not getting paid royalties for Obamacare, as President Trump posted on Truth Social earlier today. It’s not true. There’s no truth to it. It’s insane.
“The claim, if you can call it that, originated on a website called the Dunning-Kruger Times. More on that in a second.
“That’s part of the America’s Last Line of Defense Network, which is by definition describing itself as a network of parody satire and tomfoolery. Everything on this website is fiction – the website says it’s not true.”
Addressing inquiries about why Trump shared the post, a White House representative told Forbes that Obama ‘quickly became a multi-millionaire and even purchased a luxurious summer home on Martha’s Vineyard’ after his presidency.
They further remarked: “Meanwhile, President Trump is the only president in modern history to have actually lost money in office because he has consistently put everyday Americans and America First – not special interests.”
