Walmart introduces new bear-themed cup following Starbucks ‘Bearista’ controversy

Walmart has introduced its version of the popular Starbucks Bearista cup just as Starbucks announces a restock of their sought-after item.

The Seattle coffeehouse recently released the charming 20-ounce glass shaped like a teddy bear wearing a green beanie, complete with a straw, in early November coinciding with its holiday menu launch.

The launch created a frenzy among customers eager to purchase one of these limited-edition items, often referred to as Starbubus, priced at $29.95.

However, the exclusive run left many customers disappointed. Despite rising early to secure one of these fashionable cold cups, many were left empty-handed due to limited stock, with accusations on social media suggesting baristas were keeping the cups for themselves.

Starbucks issued an apology, stating that “the excitement for our merchandise exceeded even our biggest expectations.”

“Despite shipping more Bearista cups to coffeehouses than almost any other merchandise item this holiday season, the Bearista cup and some other items sold out fast,” they added.

“We understand many customers were excited about the Bearista cup and apologize for the disappointment this may have caused.”

On Sunday, December 7, approximately a month after its initial release, Starbucks hinted at the Bearista’s return with a social media video.

The video showed a series of red holiday cups being lifted away to unveil the coveted Bearista.

“Your chance is in the Starbucks app. Tomorrow, 12/8,” the caption of the post read.

Details on the restock remain sparse.

While some fans are thrilled about the cup’s return, others are skeptical.

Concurrently, the Bearista has achieved true viral status, as evidenced by the emergence of several knockoffs.

Similar trends have occurred with Stanely Cups, Labubus, and even popular designer perfumes.

Now, Walmart offers its version of the Bearista cup at a significantly lower price.

Priced at just $15.99, it is $13.96 less than the original Starbucks version.

Additionally, Walmart offers another bear cup for $20, featuring a festive white and red striped scarf.

Walmart describes the cup as ‘crafted from premium durable materials’ capable of withstanding the excitement of Christmas celebrations.

“Whether used for decorating Christmas trees repeatedly or as a holiday playmate for kids, it will accompany you and extend festive joy for years,” the description elaborates.

If you wish to join the trend without the early morning Starbucks line, you can now order your own version just in time for the holiday season.
