Wanda Sykes critiques Ricky Gervais with a nod to the ‘trans community’ following his Golden Globe win

Wanda Sykes took the opportunity to poke fun at British comedian Ricky Gervais while announcing his Golden Globe win.

Ricky Gervais, now 64, has been a notable figure in the entertainment industry for many years, often stirring controversy with his bold humor.

Although he received acclaim for his scathing commentary on celebrities when hosting the Golden Globes, Gervais has also faced backlash, which Wanda Sykes cheekily highlighted.

At this year’s Golden Globes, Gervais was awarded his second Golden Globe for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television for his Netflix special “Mortality.”

Since Gervais was not in attendance, Sykes seized the moment to humorously critique him.

She remarked that she would ‘borrow from’ Teyana Taylor’s speech to accept the award on Gervais’ behalf.

Sykes quipped: “Because he would like to thank God and the trans community.”

Gervais is well-known for his outspoken atheist views and has faced criticism for jokes about the Trans community.

Some advocacy groups have labeled him ‘anti-trans’ and ‘dangerous’ due to his comedic remarks.

Nonetheless, Gervais has addressed these accusations and refuted them.

He has stated: “In real life, of course I support trans rights. I support all human rights and trans rights are human rights.

“Live your best life, use your preferred pronouns, be the gender that you feel that you are.”

However, he did include a humorous comment about trans women and Eddie Izzard, who identifies as gender fluid and prefers she/her pronouns.

Gervais also expressed that “it’s mad to think that joking about something means you’re anti-it”.
