The Lake Washington School District launched a review after a viral video captured a staff member apparently celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
A woman identified as Kelsey Ballin, a nurse at Eastlake High School, allegedly says, “Oh my God, thank God he’s dead, bye,” after someone else references Charlie Kirk.
She also appears to mockingly blow a kiss, stick out her tongue and give the finger during the incident, which reportedly took place at a farmer’s market.
Eastlake High School is part of the Lake Washington School District, located in Sammamish, Washington, and serves grades 9 through 12.
The video went viral after being shared on X by the account Right Angle News Network.
“Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is aware of a video circulating on social media involving a district staff member,” a spokesperson for the school district told Fox News Digital in a statement Wednesday.
“We have received concerns from community members regarding the statements and conduct shown in the video.”
“The district takes these concerns seriously. While we cannot comment on individual personnel matters, district leadership has initiated a review of the circumstances surrounding this incident and will follow established processes.”
Ballin was not the only person visible in the footage.
Ballin confronted a couple wearing Kirk merch, mocked their Christian faith, called them “maggots,” and celebrated his death.
The district also addressed broader concerns about employee conduct.
“Employees retain rights and protections as private citizens. Balancing these principles is central to how the district approaches situations like this one.”
The district noted that “the views expressed in the video do not reflect the values or positions of Lake Washington School District.”
Ballin did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Fox News Digital reached out to Ballin for comment.
The incident triggered significant online backlash against both Ballin and the school district.
Social media users demanded the school take action against her.
In the viral moment that prompted the district review,
Charlie Kirk, the conservative political activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck with a single bullet by a sniper at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on September 10, during a debate event with around 3,000 people in attendance.
Kirk was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. A manhunt for the shooter ended the following day when Tyler James Robinson, a 22-year-old from Washington, Utah, surrendered to the local sheriff.
Prosecutors charged Robinson with aggravated murder on September 16 and announced they would seek the death penalty, alleging a politically motivated attack.
The incident sparked a wider controversy over social media reactions to Kirk’s death.
The district leadership said it will follow established processes as the review moves forward.
