White House staffer Karoline Leavitt, 28, responds to suggestion she ‘struggled to find boys her own age’

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has shared insights into the age difference in her marriage.

At 28, Leavitt is married to Nicolas Riccio, who is 60, creating a significant age difference of 32 years—more than twice her age.

After the 2024 presidential election, Leavitt broke records as the youngest person to be appointed as the White House’s press secretary by President Trump.

Her time in the position has been marked by a shift away from conventional media practices, highlighted by a legal dispute with the Associated Press after the organization was excluded from briefings for not using the term ‘Gulf of America’ instead of the Gulf of Mexico.

Recently, Leavitt spoke candidly about her marriage and the noticeable age gap with her husband.

During a conversation on Pod Force One with Miranda Devine, she was humorously asked: “Could you not find boys your own age who were as mature?”

Leavitt lightheartedly responded: “Honestly, no, if you want to know the truth.”

She elaborated on the initial talks with her parents, acknowledging the challenge the age gap presented.

“But then, of course, once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man, and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them,” she said.

“And now we’re all friends. I mean, it’s a typical family relationship. My husband has such respect for my parents and the way that they raised me, and we all have a lot of fun together when they come to visit.”

Leavitt also recounted meeting her husband at the age of 25.

She shared: “We met during my congressional campaign. A friend of mine, who owns a restaurant, is also a mutual friend of my husband’s. He invited my husband to my event at his restaurant and we met.”

On The Megyn Kelly Show, Leavitt expressed: “I mean it’s a very atypical love story, but he’s incredible.

She further discussed how Riccio has supported her professional journey.

“He’s built a very successful business himself, so now he’s fully supportive of me building my success in my career,” she said.

The couple tied the knot in January 2025 after becoming engaged in December 2023.

In 2024, they became parents to twins, and Leavitt recounted having to shorten her maternity leave following an incident where Trump was shot during his presidential campaign.
