The track takes its title from a term in early addiction recovery describing a surge of euphoria and optimism—here applied to the giddy rush of a romance that burned too bright too fast.
“And it was so good / Letting you want me / So good / To make promises, promises,” Swift sings in one verse, capturing the intoxication of being pursued. The lyrics then pivot to raw regret: “But I was pink clouding from the thrill of it / Skydiving as you wrapped your arms around my body / Gray (Gray) rocking where the arrow hit / Years later, I still wonder how to tell you sorry / I didn’t wanna let you down / So I left you up there on a pink cloud.”
