Why former Playboy twins worried about meeting Anna Nicole Smith’s fate after ‘trauma’ in Hugh Hefner’s mansion

Two former Playboy models have opened up about their decision to leave the Playboy Mansion and start anew.

Karissa and Kristina Shannon, both 35, entered the glamorous world of the Playboy Mansion at the age of 19, eventually becoming girlfriends of Hugh Hefner.

The twins appeared in the last two seasons of the show Girls Next Door, which showcased the lives of Hefner’s girlfriends, including Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson, and Bridget Marquardt.

“We shot those and we overnighted them and literally got a call the next day,” Kristina shared in an interview with People Magazine.

“They were like, ‘We want to set you girls up for a test shoot in Miami.’ And we were like, ‘Holy cow.’ “

Yet, life at the mansion proved to be more challenging than they expected, describing the experience as ‘traumatic’.

Kristina mentioned the drastic adjustment: “We were literally just teenagers. We were all natural. We didn’t have fake teeth. We didn’t have fake boobs like the other girls or fake hair. We just walked around with natural faces over tan because we were always in the sun in Florida.”

They faced ‘jealousy’ from others due to the ‘special attention’ they received from Hefner, and their religious beliefs also posed challenges. Karissa commented, “We had no family that was there to back us up like a lot of the girls.”

The sisters departed from the mansion in 2010, facing several difficulties in the following years, such as the loss of their grandmother and Kristina’s 2014 DUI, drawing comparisons to past Playmate Anna Nicole Smith.

Kristina reflected: “Everyone was saying we were going through our ‘Anna Nicole [Smith] phase. We gained weight. There was alcohol and pills.

“We were really unhealthy and lost and, even at points, suicidal. We had no one. It was just us, trying to figure it out after losing ourselves.”

Anna Nicole Smith gained fame as a Playmate in the 90s and early 2000s but tragically passed away in 2007 at the age of 37 from combined drug intoxication.

Karissa and Kristina recognized they couldn’t maintain their lifestyle indefinitely, with Karissa noting, “Kristina and I decided to move. We didn’t know where to go, so we decided to go back to where we were born and leave L.A.

“We sold the beauty salon we owned at the time, and said, ‘Let’s get the hell out of here and live a simple life. Let’s just start healing.”
