Today marks the day when Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will finally clash in Texas (November 15). Regardless of the outcome, both fighters are set to receive suspensions.
Fans of boxing have eagerly anticipated this match-up, with months of anticipation for YouTuber Paul to take on boxing legend Tyson in the ring.
The bout will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and viewers worldwide can catch the action as it streams on Netflix.
Both fighters have been vocal leading up to the event, with Paul controversially stating that Tyson “must die,” while Tyson confidently asserted that he is “not intimidated or afraid” of Paul.
While the victor remains unknown, one aspect is certain: both boxers will be subject to a suspension after their encounter.
This mandatory hiatus is enforced by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which is responsible for overseeing the match in Arlington.
Regardless of the winner, both Tyson and Paul will be required to take a break from fighting for at least seven days.
Additional rest days are added based on the number of rounds fought, with an extra three days for each round.
As the duo is scheduled to fight for eight rounds tonight, they could potentially be out of the ring for up to 24 days.
If either fighter is defeated by technical knockout, the suspension extends to a minimum of 30 days. A knockout results in a 60-day break for the loser.
Both Tyson and Paul can appeal a suspension, as regulations allow: “Medical disqualification of a contestant is for their own safety and may be made at the recommendation of the examining physician or TDLR.
“A contestant who disagrees with a medical disqualification, medical suspension or rest period set at the discretion of a ringside physician or a disqualification or suspension set by the department may request a hearing to show proof of fitness.”
Considering the extensive preparation for this fight, it seems unlikely that either Paul or Tyson would hurry back into the ring in the near future.
With just hours remaining until the fight, only time will tell if Tyson or Paul will require that extended hiatus.
Fans can watch the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson bout live on Netflix on November 15. The fight is scheduled to start at 8 pm ET, 7 pm CT, 5 pm PT, and 1 am GMT.
