An ‘extraordinary and compelling’ psychological thriller has climbed to the top of Netflix’s charts for a particular reason.
Despite Netflix hosting a vast selection of captivating TV shows, viewers have already dedicated more than 45.4 million hours to watching this particular series, according to FlixPatrol.
With Stranger Things gaining momentum as it prepares for its eagerly awaited fifth season, attention has shifted to another intense mystery thriller featuring the multi Emmy Award-winning actress Claire Danes.
In this thriller, Danes portrays Aggie Wiggs, a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer who remains deeply affected by the death of her young son, leaving her as a shadow of her former self.
Residing in the New York suburb of Oyster Bay, Aggie’s life takes a turn when the charismatic real estate heir, Nile Jarvis (played by Rhys), becomes her new neighbor.
Nile is troubled by the enigmatic disappearance of his wife and the negative rumors surrounding the incident. Despite this, Aggie becomes involved with him, both as a neighbor and as a potential subject for her next book.
As their stories intertwine, Aggie finds herself confronting his internal struggles while trying to escape her own, resulting in ‘a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly,’ as described by Netflix.
The series also features Pitch Perfect’s Brittany Snow, Santa Clarita Diet’s Natalie Morales, Breaking Bad’s Jonathan Banks, and ER’s David Lyons.
This series, titled The Beast in Me, has been praised as ‘astonishing’ and ‘well-paced’ by critics.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it achieved an impressive 84 percent critics score, with the consensus stating it is ‘a cut above the usual murder mystery.’ The site added: “The Beast in Me stages a psychological duel that crackles with tension thanks to Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys’ superb performances.”
The on-screen chemistry between the lead actors seems to have elevated the series to the top of the streaming charts.
