Jay Cutler, a former NFL quarterback, began a four-day jail term following a DUI incident where he rear-ended another vehicle.
The arrest took place on October 17, 2024, with police determining that Cutler was above the legal alcohol limit. Reports indicated he exhibited signs of intoxication at the scene.
According to court documents, officers noted Cutler’s bloodshot eyes and slurred speech during the encounter.
Initially, Cutler denied consuming alcohol but later conceded to having had “a little bit” when pressed by the authorities.
He allegedly offered the other driver $2,000 to avoid police involvement and to let him depart the scene.
In a more serious turn, officers discovered a rifle and a handgun in Cutler’s backseat, a significant legal issue in Tennessee when combined with alcohol influence.
He faced several charges, including DUI, possession of a gun while intoxicated, and failure to exercise due care. Cutler later negotiated a plea deal, agreeing to relinquish the Glock pistol found in his vehicle.
This agreement led to the dismissal of the weapons charges, leaving Cutler with DUI, violation of implied consent law, and failure to exercise due care charges.
Cutler commenced his jail time on September 29 and will also face a year of supervised probation alongside a license revocation.
The probation conditions will include random drug tests.
He must pay a $350 fine, the minimum for a first-time offense in Knox County, Tennessee, where the incident occurred.
Thankfully, the collision did not result in serious injuries.
During his career, Cutler played as a quarterback in the NFL for 12 seasons.
He shares three children with Kristin Cavallari, his ex-wife and reality TV personality. The two separated in 2020 and have since engaged in public disputes on social media.
Cavallari claimed she “never got a penny” from Cutler, a statement he described as “reckless.”
“I think it’s borderline slander to insinuate that there was zero dollars split during the marriage that each side got,” Cutler remarked on the Take It Outside podcast.
“It’s insanity and it’s completely false, completely untrue. I hate that I even have to address it, honestly.”
