Widow of Trump shooting victim shares his final words before heroically shielding family from gunman

The wife of a man tragically killed at a Donald Trump rally has broken her silence, sharing the poignant last words he spoke.

On a fateful Saturday, July 13, an assassination attempt was made on former US president Donald Trump while he was addressing a crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Incredibly, the bullet only grazed Trump’s ear, allowing Secret Service agents to quickly secure the 78-year-old former president.

Following the harrowing event, Trump expressed his gratitude for the swift actions of the Secret Service on Truth Social: “I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.”

Trump detailed the terrifying moment: “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.

“Much bleeding took place, so I realised then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

He also offered his sympathies to the family of Corey Comperatore, a retired fire chief from Buffalo Township who died in the incident.

Corey has been celebrated as a ‘hero’ for his actions in protecting his wife and two daughters during the shooting.

Helen Comperatore, his widow, recently revealed Corey’s final heroic act and words to the New York Post: “He’s my hero,” she stated. “He just said, ‘get down!’ That was the last thing he said.”

Reportedly, President Joe Biden reached out to Helen after the tragedy, but she declined the call, stating: “My husband was a devout Republican and he would not have wanted me to talk to him,” Helen explained.

Corey’s sister Dawn also expressed her grief and outrage on social media, highlighting the senseless nature of the loss: “The hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most,” she posted. “He was a hero who shielded his daughters.”

Dawn continued: “His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable. My baby brother just turned 50 and had so much life left to experience. Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds.”

Additionally, two other individuals were severely injured during the chaos at the rally. Pennsylvania State Police identified them as David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, with both reportedly in stable condition as of July 15.

The assailant, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was neutralized at the scene.
