Houston Astros Win the World Series

The Houston Astros won the 2022 World Series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies four games to two, 4 to 1.

The Astros competed in the Fall Classic for the first time since their historic cheating controversy in 2017 – the last time the franchise won the World Series. Since 2008, the Phillies have not won a World Series.

Dusty Baker’s Astros also had the second combined no-hitter in World Series history during Game 3 on November 3. Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas hosted Game 6.

The game was knotted at zero until Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies’ outfielder, hit a single home run in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Astros’ Yordan Alvarez hit a 450-foot three-run homer to grab the lead.

“Mattress Mack placed $10M in bets on the Astros to win the World Series — at blended +750 odds across multiple sportsbooks,” Front Office Sports tweeted. “He just won $75 million — the largest legal payout in sports betting history.”

The Astros’ shortstop Jeremy Peña was named World Series MVP.
