Woman, 35, Found Dead and Badly Battered Inside NYC Apartment, Police Say

A 35-year-old Bronx woman found badly battered in her apartment Sunday evening died hours later at a hospital, and investigators are probing whether foul play was involved, authorities said.

Jasmine Chisolm was discovered with visible injuries to her head and face inside her home on East 158th Street near Courtlandt Avenue in the Melrose section around 6:30 p.m., according to police. Her boyfriend had placed the 911 call that brought officers to the scene, law enforcement sources said.

Responding EMS workers transported Chisolm to Lincoln Medical Center, where medical staff initially listed her in stable condition. She succumbed to her injuries hours later, authorities said.

The city medical examiner’s office will officially determine the cause of death. It was not immediately clear how Chisolm died, but the NYPD is investigating the possibility of criminality, sources said.

No arrests had been made by Monday afternoon as detectives continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Chisolm’s death comes amid ongoing concerns about domestic violence in New York City, though police have not disclosed any suspected relationship between her injuries and the boyfriend who called for help.

The investigation remains active as authorities await the medical examiner’s findings to help determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
