Woman apologizes publicly after ‘severe diarrhea’ leads to flight cancellation affecting hundreds

A TikTok user issued a public apology after an unfortunate episode of diarrhea caused disruptions at the airport last summer.

In a series of detailed clips, Meghan Reinertsen shared with her followers how her actions ‘single-handedly got a flight out of Indianapolis canceled’ nearly a year ago.

At the time, Meghan was traveling back to the United States from Portugal, where she currently works as a live-in nanny.

The night before her long journey—consisting of two connecting flights to Indianapolis for a film premiere—she consumed several bites of an undercooked burger.

This decision led to disastrous consequences as Meghan spent most of one flight in the restroom, resulting in frustrations for other passengers.

“If that flight cancellation changed the trajectory of your life in a really negative way, I’m so sorry. It was not without pain and suffering – let me run you through the events of that day,” she explained to the camera.

On her second flight from Lisbon to Newark, she was woken from a deep sleep by a ‘disturbance deep within’ her digestive system.

Realizing that she was experiencing severe stomach cramps, Meghan managed to get through customs.

During her Newark to Indianapolis connection, she endured the first 30 minutes in ‘agonizing pain’.

“I’ve never felt anything like it in my life, I am just full-body sweating, I am crying,” the TikToker explained. “My insides are cramping, I can only imagine that that is what a contraction feels like.”

Usually adhering to seatbelt rules, Meghan deemed her situation an emergency and hurried to the lavatory.

“For the next 20 minutes I have more diarrhea than any human should ever have in their life,” she continued in her TikTok video.

“My bowels are just filling with water, releasing, filling with water – not water, diarrhea – releasing. It is now at a point where I go, ‘I’m about to throw up!’ But I’m in a 2×2 shoebox broom closet.”

Meghan further described the situation: “In my panic I rip open the airplane bathroom door and I just yell into the plane, ‘I NEED HELP! I NEED HELP!’

“A flight attendant comes out from behind a curtain, she literally goes ‘What do you need?’ and I ask for a barf bag.”

During the next 90 minutes, she continued to be unwell, and due to the severity of her condition, the pilot allowed her to remain in the bathroom for landing.

“We’ve landed and I’m still going,” she commented in a follow-up video.

Meghan revealed that by the time she left the bathroom, all other passengers had left the aircraft, and an air hostess informed her that the next flight was canceled.

“In the moment I’m not thinking that’s because of me, OK, because I’m like ‘What a gorgeous coincidence!'” she acknowledged.

Once she recovered, the cabin crew assisted her to baggage claim due to her exhaustion.
