A woman discovered she was pregnant in an unexpected way while in her bathroom.
Imagine this scenario: It’s the year 2020, lockdown is ongoing, and you’re seated on a toilet in a New York City bathroom. Everything seems routine until something unusual occurs, suggesting you might be pregnant.
Naginah Gogolli shared her surprising realization through a viral TikTok video, narrating how her toilet seat turned into a puzzling mystery.
“We cleaned it several times a day after it never [came] off…we’re nonstop cleaning it,” she told PEOPLE, initially thinking that poor quality clothing was the culprit.
“I thought that either me or my husband were wearing not good quality clothing,” she explained.
However, this was actually an early sign of her pregnancy.
Naginah recounted that the toilet seat turned purple after she sat on it. She and her husband had decided to stop using birth control, leaving the decision to have a child in ‘God’s hands.’
When she noticed the color change on the seat, she was unaware that it could indicate anything about her health until her sister pointed it out.
In the TikTok video, Naginah describes how her family suspected she might be pregnant. “Just like in the video, basically I had family over who was insinuating that I was pregnant. My sister’s like you’re pregnant and I’m like the f**k girl, no I’m not.”
With her period still a few days away, she was certain her family was mistaken.
Yet, when her husband searched online, the results suggested otherwise.
Naginah found that search results indicated: “The first thing to pop up was like normal color transfer from clothes, then it was the skin disorder, and then some women have reported this during pregnancy.”
Despite this, she remained skeptical.
However, another clue emerged when she suddenly felt the urge to vomit while disputing the possibility of pregnancy with her husband.
“After cleaning up dinner, I have a very strong stomach… and immediately I run to my purple toilet seat and I’m just puking my brains out,” she recalled. Her husband laughed and insisted she was pregnant. A pregnancy test soon confirmed it.
“Honestly, once I found out that I was pregnant, I couldn’t wait to tell them that they were right,” she admitted.
From documenting her oddly colored toilet to learning she was to become a mom, Naginah was surprised by how many other women had similar experiences.
“I was blown away by the comments of people saying, yeah, me too, me too,” she shared. “Seeing the feedback that I got on my social media was honestly really validating for me.”
Why did this happen? Her doctor had ‘never heard of that,’ leaving it a mystery. However, Healthline suggests it could be due to pregnancy hormones and Chromhidrosis.
Now, she is a mother to a little boy who shares her rare heart defect and needs a pacemaker to live. She describes him as a ‘blessing’ and considers it a miracle that he is here.
