Residents have recounted a terrifying event where a woman was attacked by her neighbor’s dogs on her own property.
The woman from Louisiana is currently hospitalized after nearly losing her leg in a brutal attack. Multiple dogs began to maul her when she fell on the driveway of her home in Livingston Parish, on Tuesday, October 29.
Neighbors, unable to intervene, witnessed the attack. The dogs had a history of aggression, having bitten residents previously, prompting a call to 911.
Cheryl Boudreaux, whose elderly mother resides on Randall Avenue, chose to speak out to local news station WBRZ 2 on behalf of her frightened mother.
“They’ve bitten my mom twice. My mom is 85 years old, both times she required medical attention,” she stated.
Her mother had contacted emergency services just before the attack, after noticing the victim had fallen.
Boudreaux narrated: “She had to stand there and watch it. She was like, ‘Y’all need to hurry up and get here. Hurry up and get here. They are eating this woman.’ Then, Mama said the lady wasn’t moving and Mama thought she was dead.”
She expressed frustration that the authorities only acted after such a severe incident, noting that it should not have required such an injury for the dogs to be removed from their owner.
“We’re just furious, you know, because we don’t understand why it had to get to this,” Boudreaux said.
Randall Averette, another resident from the Denham Springs area, gave more insights on the event, telling the local news outlet that the woman was attempting to stand when the attack occurred.
The elderly neighbor recounted: “When I went over there, she was laying on the ground, paramedics bandaging her up.”
He described her wounds: “The paramedics said that her left leg was torn up pretty good around her calf, her right leg was bit, her arm was bit and the dog bit her on the back of the neck.”
Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed that two of the three dogs owned by the neighbor were taken to the pound on Wednesday, October 30. It remains unclear if they have been euthanized.
Ard also mentioned that a similar situation occurred previously with the same owner.
Ard added: “The last time we went through the paperwork to get the dog [considered] dangerous, we couldn’t actually identify the dog. Now, we have been able to identify the dog. Unfortunately, someone has almost lost their leg because of this.”
