Woman shares her story of using dating apps to find temporary housing after unexpectedly losing her home

A woman shared a ‘strategy’ she utilized to secure a place to stay after finding herself without a home.

Emily Webb, 25, found herself living in her car on the Gold Coast during the summer in Australia.

The young TikToker, who has 65k followers, explained that she had been staying on friends’ couches but discovered a different way to find accommodation without becoming a ‘burden’.

Australia is currently experiencing a housing crisis, making it increasingly challenging for many to find a place to reside.

Emily mentioned that despite offering a year’s rent upfront, she struggled to secure a place to live.

She earns a significant income from her OnlyFans account and has nearly 170k followers on Instagram.

With a budget of approximately AU $1,000 (around US $660) per week for rent, she still found it difficult to find housing.

Despite this, Emily was not overly concerned about her predicament as she had another tactic to find temporary accommodation while searching for a permanent residence.

Her approach involved using the dating app Hinge to meet men, staying at their places for a few days before moving on.

In a TikTok video from June, she stated: “I can’t believe I’ve been wasting my money on rent all this time. Life hack: If you’re hot, don’t ever pay rent.”

Speaking to news.com.au, she said: “I’ve been on dating apps finding different guys’ places to stay with, and it is going surprisingly well. I don’t usually tell them. I don’t want to put pressure on anyone.”

The adult content creator noted that she saved money by not spending her AU $1,000 weekly on rent, adding: “It is good not paying rent. The places I’m looking at are around $1,000 a week, and I’m saving so much.”

Emily mentioned she was comfortable using her ‘pretty privilege’ to her benefit in her challenging situation.

However, commenters on TikTok were quick to criticize her approach. One remarked: “You are sending all the wrong messages to viewers stop sponging off people!” while another agreed: “This is a very dangerous game you’re playing…”

A third comment speculated: “I’ve seen a few of these videos and I’ve come to the conclusion this is satire lol.”

Five months on, some may be curious about Emily’s current situation. It seems she is doing well…

In September, she recounted a story about how her ‘two boyfriends’ discovered each other while she was in Bali.

Her recent TikToks appear to be filmed consistently from the same apartment, suggesting she eventually found stable housing.

Did Emily’s search for a new home lead to a romantic connection? Aside from her ‘two boyfriend’ incident, the details remain unclear.

While Emily navigated through her ‘homeless era’ successfully, her method should be approached with caution.
