Imagine coming home after a night out and discovering you’ve become the polar opposite of a multi-billionaire.
Many of us aren’t too shocked when we return from a night out and see our bank balances have dipped into the negative. However, one woman was stunned to find that her account indicated a staggering $50 billion had been withdrawn. That’s an extraordinary night out.
A TikToker named Gabe Floress shared on his page that he and his friends went out to a bar. When they returned home, his friend Maddie checked her bank balance and found an unpleasant surprise.
Maddie opened her Chase banking app to see that one of her accounts showed a balance of $76.28, while her savings account read: “$-49,999,999,697.98.”
In the video, another friend can be heard saying they initially thought Maddie was ‘exaggerating’ but quickly realized the seriousness of the situation.
Maddie exclaimed, “What do I do?”

In a since-deleted video on her own TikTok page, Maddie explained: “I wish I could say I bought the city of Los Angeles. It’s not the case here. I’m not really sure what inclined me to check my bank account at like 2 am. But I did. And then I saw negative 49 billion.”
Maddie immediately contacted her bank, and the representative she spoke with was just as puzzled by the situation as she was.
Re-enacting the conversation, Maddie said: “‘Hello this is Chase bank, how may I help you?’ Hi, I’m negative 50 billion dollars in debt, and I’m not quite sure why. Do I have 50 billion dollars? No. I do have $76. So she goes, ‘can I put you on hold?’ I’ve never seen this before. I was like, oh.”
She added, “It also said on my account that I would get $50 billion in 2099. Which would be sick, but I don’t know if I would be alive at that point.”
A spokesperson for Chase banking confirmed to Newsweek that the bank experienced a ‘technical glitch over the weekend,’ which affected ‘a limited number of accounts.’
They continued at the time: “The issue has been resolved, and those accounts are now showing accurate balances.”
Maddie was immensely relieved.
In the video, she continued: “First of all, I want to say thank you. I get 50 billion dollars is a little crazy. But we’re here, and it’s resolved.
“So Chase started this thing, where if you have a problem with your account, it could be so many different things. You need to change the type of account you have, whatever. They started it this weekend, which is why you’re seeing other people have the same problem. So if you have this problem, give them a call.”
Responding to another TikToker who commented on the video jokingly thanking her for paying their ‘student loan,’ she replied: “So no, I’m not 50 billion dollars in debt anymore, thank God. And unfortunately, I wasn’t the person to take on everyone’s student debt, but maybe Jeff Bezos will.”
