A woman has sparked controversy on social media after sharing that she was dismissed from a job interview because of her outfit.
Job interviews can be incredibly stressful. Besides dealing with nerves, you need to prepare for potential questions and maintain your composure throughout the process.
In face-to-face interviews, your attire is particularly crucial and might even determine whether you get the job or not.
A woman recently posted on TikTok about being asked to leave a job interview because of her outfit, which many online are calling ‘insane’.
Tyreshia, known as @mtyreshiadaily on TikTok, disclosed that she was instructed to ‘get changed’ after arriving at a job interview in black shorts, a white top, and a cardigan.
“I cannot believe the recruiter asked me to change my interview clothes then come back. I look very neat and professional, so no!” Tyreshia wrote in the video’s caption.
In the brief video, Tyreshia stands facing the camera in the clothes she wore to the interview.
“The Recruiter REJECTED Me Because Of This,” she wrote over the video.
Tyreshia claimed that, after arriving for the unspecified job interview, the employer asked if she would go home, change her clothes, and return.
However, Tyreshia refused, saying: “I was like, no?”
The video has garnered over 45,000 comments, with viewers split on the issue.
“You should see the stuff I seen people wear to interviews, there’s nothing wrong with this in warm weather,” one defender commented.

Another person remarked, “Once again I get to wonder, what’s wrong with Americans? Is nothing ever normal in America? Here in Europe (minus UK maybe) this is a very normal office outfit in warm weather.”
On the other hand, some sided with the recruiter.
“They were polite to reschedule you. most would’ve just outright rejected same day,” one TikTok user noted, while another added, “Hey so shorts to an interview is insane.”
At the time of writing, the video has amassed nearly five million views on TikTok.
