Woman Unaware of Pregnancy Delivers Baby in RV at Burning Man

A remarkable event unfolded for Kayla Thompson, 37, and her husband Kasey when they attended the Burning Man festival. The couple from Salt Lake City found themselves with more than just unforgettable experiences from the event.

In the middle of the night, while resting in their RV camper, Kayla was awakened by an intense pain. Mere minutes later, she had delivered the couple’s first child, a baby girl weighing 3 pounds, 9 ounces.

Surprisingly, Kayla had been unaware of her pregnancy.

Speaking to The New York Times, Kayla shared that she ‘didn’t have any symptoms’ leading up to the unexpected birth.

“Even the nurses at the hospital were like, ‘You don’t look like you were pregnant at all,'” she recounted.

After the baby was born, Kasey quickly sought assistance.

“I was yelling for anyone to come help us,” he explained to the publication.

Fortunately, they were surrounded by skilled individuals—a neonatal nurse, a pediatric doctor, and an OBGYN, who immediately offered their help. They assisted Kayla in delivering the placenta safely.

Medical staff from Burning Man soon arrived to provide additional support, and arrangements were made to transfer the new family to a hospital in Reno, Nevada. However, when the air ambulance appeared, it was revealed that only the baby had space to be airlifted.

Kasey faced a challenging decision about whether to have their child flown to safety or to accompany his wife immediately.

He ultimately decided to travel with his wife to the hospital, and upon their four-hour arrival, they were joyfully reunited with their healthy daughter.

“She was safe and sound, and I was so thrilled,” Kasey expressed.

Kasey also expressed his gratitude for the festival community’s support during their critical moment.

“That’s what that community is about. [The Burners] will always have such a special place in my heart.”

To assist the couple financially, Kasey’s family has launched a GoFundMe page, which can be found here.

The page details: “Since this is their first child and the pregnancy was completely unexpected, my brother and his wife don’t have anything prepared… On top of that, the unexpected circumstances have created a heavy financial burden: NICU care (with no release date yet), medical bills, and travel and lodging expenses while they are far from home.

“Anything you are able to give – no matter how big or small – will help this new little family get started on the right foot.”
