Two women who say they spent time with Liam Payne shortly before his death have reportedly shared details that offer a clearer picture of the singer’s final hours.
Payne died on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor balcony at the Buenos Aires hotel where he had been staying.
Following the tragedy, tributes poured in for the former One Direction star from those closest to him, including bandmate Harry Styles and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who described the 31-year-old as her ‘angel’.
Cheryl Cole, Payne’s former partner and the mother of his nine-year-old son Bear, also issued a public statement and urged the media to ‘have a little dignity’ in its coverage of his death.
A report published by The Mail on Sunday on Sunday (2 August) claimed that two women — identified as Aldana Serrano, 32, and Lucila Goitea, 29 — were allegedly with the singer in the hours before he died.
According to the report, the women are considered ‘key witnesses’ and are both single mothers from areas near the Argentine capital.
It was further alleged that the pair, believed to be sex workers, gave sworn statements saying Payne got in touch with them through WhatsApp on the day he died.
The report stated that they went to his third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel for consensual sex and remained there for about two hours.
“During our time there, we had sex with him – which was consensual sex – only once, and he wore protection,” one of the women allegedly said.
The Mail on Sunday said the women requested payment of roughly £3,700 for their time and work.
But when an international wire transfer allegedly did not go through, Payne reportedly asked whether he could pay them using PayPal instead, which they refused.
“We did not and could not download it at the time,” the women said.
The report also claimed Payne then tried to give them his gold Rolex watch, but they turned it down because they ‘only wanted money’.
“So he took it and smashed it. He told us he didn’t care about the money. And then he broke the TV; he punched it. He made us understand that he could smash everything because he knew he could pay for it,” Goitea allegedly recalled.
The article said the women eventually left but later had to go back because Goitea had forgotten her make-up bag and phone charger in Payne’s room.
“We went up to the room with Liam and the bag was on his coffee table. I went to the bathroom and heard him apologising to Aldana. He got down on his knees and apologised for giving us a bad time,” she claimed.
Serrano echoed: “‘He removed his jacket, got on his knees and apologised to me. He asked us to stay and we told him no. He got angry.”
Documents cited in the report indicate that Goitea and Serrano left the hotel room for a second time at around 4pm.
Officials recorded Payne’s time of death at 5.07pm. He fell approximately 45 feet from the balcony into the hotel’s internal courtyard.
A post-mortem examination found that the ‘Strip That Down’ singer died from ‘polytrauma’.
MFF UK describes that term as a situation in which ‘a patient has suffered several major injuries, often in road traffic accidents, falls or acts of violence.’
A toxicology report also confirmed that Payne had cocaine in his system at the time of his death.
The inquest in the UK has been paused while authorities in Argentina continue their investigation. In July 2026, Payne’s close friend Roger Nores was officially cleared of all criminal charges in connection with the singer’s death, with prosecutors declining to appeal the ruling. Three other individuals who had been charged with manslaughter were also acquitted, while two men accused of supplying Payne with drugs before his death remain under investigation, with prosecutors reviewing evidence and reportedly discussing a possible plea deal.
Before his death, Payne had been in Argentina with his partner, Kate Cassidy, 27.
Earlier this week, Cassidy revealed that she intends to temporarily remove tattoos she got in the aftermath of losing her boyfriend. In a TikTok video, she clarified that she is removing the tattoos, including the “444” tribute and angel wings on her fingers, due to the thickness of the ink rather than a lack of affection for their meaning. She stated that they were “the very first tattoos I ever received, and I went somewhere really random.”
In April 2026, Cassidy shared an unreleased video from what she described as her final day with Payne in Argentina, showing the couple enjoying a horseback ride in the countryside. She later opened up about the experience during an appearance on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, revealing details about their last moments together before his death.
More recently, in March 2026, Cassidy has been documented dating a man named Michael in social media posts, indicating she has returned to dating nearly a year and a half after Payne’s death. The couple soft-launched their relationship on TikTok, with Cassidy sharing videos of them together.
