In August of 1969, almost half a million flower children went in droves to a music festival held at a dairy farm in New York. The next few days would go down in history as the legendary Woodstock Festival.
Thirty-two bands including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and Santana, played for the huge audience rain or shine. Organizers were initially going to charge attendees 24 bucks a pop, but the overwhelming interest from music lovers made them turn it into a free event.
These photos, taken by two LIFE Magazine photographers Bill Eppridge and John Dominis, give us a peek into the crazy 3-day event full of muddy fields, mountains of trash, and hundreds of naked people, all coming together for the love of music.
