World’s priciest vending machine stands 15 storeys high and employs robotics to deliver cars

Imagine walking up to a vending machine and instead of the usual snacks and drinks, you have the option to select from luxury cars like a Ferrari, Bentley, or Porsche.

This unique vending machine is located in Singapore and was unveiled in 2017 by Autobahn Motors, a used car dealership. This 15-storey, 148-foot structure offers an array of vehicles from high-end models like the Lamborghini Aventador to rare collectibles such as the Ferrari 512M.

The machine has the capacity to store up to 60 cars simultaneously. If you find yourself browsing and interested in making a purchase, you can easily navigate through the options using a touch screen interface.

There’s no need for loose change to operate this machine. Instead of cars dropping down like typical vending machine snacks, they are carefully delivered to the customer within a minute or two. During this process, a video of the chosen car is played and the transaction is overseen by Autobahn Motors staff.

Customers aren’t locked into their choice immediately. If you’re uncertain about your selection, the machine provides the opportunity to view or even test drive the vehicle before making a final decision.

Wouldn’t it be convenient if candy bars were dispensed this way?

In 2017, Gary Hong, general manager for Autobahn Motors, shared with CNN Money that the inspiration for this impressive vending machine came from a Toys R Us visit with his son, where he saw a display of Matchbox cars.

Understanding the potential for space-saving benefits in land-scarce Singapore, Hong explained, “We decided to build something a bit different to solve the problem.”

Speaking to Reuters, he elaborated: “We needed to meet our requirement of storing a lot of cars. At the same time, we wanted to be creative and innovative.”

This Singaporean vending machine is believed to be the tallest of its kind globally, but it is not the only one. Similar car vending machines can be found in countries like the US and Japan.

The real question is, which car button will you choose?
